Alleviating Prostate Problems with Sterols/Sterolins
Historically, herbs have been used to alleviate the symptoms of prostate problems. These herbs include saw palmetto berries, African potato plant, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, wheat grass and nettle.A degree of relief was achieved with almost all the herbal remedies; however, Beta-sitosterol derived from plant fat fiber has been found to be the more effective than any of the herbs.
There have been numerous scientific studies that provide data as well as double-blind results to attest to the efficacy of utilizing sterols/sterolins to successfully treat prostate problems. Symptoms related to prostate disorders tend to respond positively and faster to sterol therapy with no contraindications.
- Beta-sitosterol derived from sterols/sterolins reduced prostate enlargement due to the following reasons:
- Reduces elevated serum cholesterol levels, which is thought to be one of the causes of enlarged prostate.
- Tends to inhibit 5-alpha reductase stopping of the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
- Provides antiestrogenic activity in the prostate.
- Studies show that sterols have the ability to reduce the growth of prostate cancer cells by replacing a number of the cell wall membrane cells that contain cholesterol with a substance that tells the cancer cell to stop dividing. This change in membrane lipid composition seems to be a key factor regarding the cancer division in the prostate.
- Slows the hormone-binding globulin stopping DHT from creating a positive disease base in the prostate.
