THE STEROLIN REPORT

Diabetes and Hyperglycemia

Numerous studies regarding sterols/sterolins and diabetes and hyperglycemia indicate that elevated sugar levels in laboratory rats were significantly reduced. The oral administration of Beta-sitosterol returned their blood sugar and functions to normal levels by increasing fasting insulin levels, improving glucose tolerance and decreasing fasting glycemia.

The anti-hyperglycemic effects were thought to be the result of an increase in insulin levels, which is attributed to a stimulation of insulin secretion from the pancreatic beta cells. When Beta-sitosterol was given to rats orally it improved diamine oxidase (DAO) levels, as well as blood sugar levels in diabetic rats.
