Dietary Changes and Positive Results
Relating to the Prostate
- Many diseases, including prostate diseases, are thought to be caused as a result of poor dietary habits and environmental insults. The average American diet is still too high in saturated fat and low in fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
- In many areas of the world, especially Asia and Africa, prostate disease only affects 5-10% of the males over 40.
- Diets in Asia and Africa contain higher levels of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
- When Asians and Africans migrate to a more industrialized country, their incidence of prostate disease increases significantly.
- Vegetarians have almost 50% less incidence of prostate cancer due to their low intake of saturated fats and higher intake of fruits, vegetables and grains.
- When fat intake is associated with fats that are high in monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, the incidence of prostate cancer is lower.
- High fat diets also can affect the level of circulating testosterone providing a source of hormones that tend to increase the proliferation of cancer cells.
- Only 10% of American men actually consume a healthy diet daily that would keep them at a low risk of prostate problems.
- The soils in the United States are now depleted in the minerals (needed to be acquired) from foods to assist the body in preventing certain disease processes. Especially important are copper, zinc and manganese.
- Since it is almost impossible to acquire all the nutrients we need to obtain optimum health, a supplement program is highly recommended.
