Why Enlarged Prostate Occurs in Men over 40
The following is the natural course of events that takes place in many men over age 40. By taking a daily regimen of sterol/sterolin capsules it may be possible to slow down the progression of these symptoms and gain precious years before the onset of the disease.
- The problem starts with a male hormone called testosterone, which tends to undergo hormonal changes as we age.
- As we age, the pituitary gland tends to increase production of prolactin, a hormone, which causes an increase of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase.
- The increase of this enzyme in the body causes testosterone, which is already decreasing, to decrease even further and to be converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT.)
- DHT is an androgen, which has the negative effect of causing the prostate cells to enlarge.
- This enlargement leads to reduced, urine flow and may lead to other urinary problems.
- If problems are not treated, surgery may be necessary.
- Stress, high ingestion of saturated fats, high intake of meats and a generally high protein diet seem to contribute to the problem and may cause prostate problems to appear at an even earlier age.
